FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Please read our frequently asked questions when preparing for a fishing trip. If you have any additional questions about your trip, feel free to call or text directly. We look forward to fishing with you!

What Should I Bring?

A few essential items for fishing are quality polarized sunglasses with glass lenses and frames that block out most ambient light. Brown or tan lenses are preferred as they provide the greatest range of contrast to help see fish and subtle differences in the bay bottom. Hats with dark undersides also help with sight fishing. Light weight long sleeve shirts and buffs really help keep the sun off your skin. Even light weight cotton pants like khaki dockers can be a tremendous help keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the cooler months. Rain gear can be very helpful at times. Comfortable shoes with non-marring soles. The boat has a built in ice chest and can hold plenty of drinks and food. Non aerosol sunscreen. A camera or cell phone.

Where Do I Find Captain GW?

Typically, trips leave from a private marina in Islamorada at mile marker 90 on the bayside. We will notify you of the pickup location prior to your trip.

Do I Tip The Captain?

If you feel I have tried my best to put you on fish and provide an enjoyable day on the water, tips are greatly appreciated.

Can We Keep The Fish We Catch?

While catch-and-release is a preferred method, if you desire to keep legal fish for a meal or two, that is allowed. I will clean and bag the fillets for you.

What Happens If The Weather Is Bad?

Bad weather doesn’t necessarily constitute poor fishing. It can actully be quite good fishing in less than ideal weather. However, in the event of electrical storms, the departure may be able to be pushed back or rescheduled if possible.
